When the largest car supplier in the Nordics, Bilia, was looking for someone to develop their warehouse in Malmö the choice fell on us.

With a warehouse of 1500 m2 and a loading height of almost 6.5 meters, the criteria was to maximise space, but above all to ensure the safety of all co-workers who handle the system on a daily basis. An electrically operated tyre rack which can handle lengths of up to 50 metres and loads of 500 tonnes with a capacity of 40,000 tyres was the solution. For maximum stability and safety, each place is also equipped with three extra arms. With slightly wider truck aisles, we increased safety even further while the lead times became shorter – something that has been crucial to Bilia.
“We looked at many different storage systems before we decided on BLS. One main reason for why we chose them was the fact that we could maximize the capacity in our warehouse and at the same time minimize manual handling. In addition, BLS is not only a retailer for storage systems but also a manufacturer. Therefore, we have had a great opportunity to influence the design which has been invaluable. But the most crucial thing for us was the safety given that it is a large system we handle with many employees and intensive work peaks.”
Bilia is one of Europe’s largest car suppliers with closer to 130 facilities in Sweden, Norway, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. They offer sales of both new and used cars and transport vehicles as well as additional services such as financing and insurance.
